D.C. Power System Evaluations

Mactel Power Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) visit telecommunication sites to conduct an inspection and assessment of the entire D.C. Power System. The object of these assessments is to ensure that the power system, which supports the entire network is adequate to ensure network survivability during commercial A.C. power outages.

Each Power System Evaluation consists of:
  • A thorough inspection of all Power components (i.e. Rectifiers, Batteries, Power Plant and D.C. Distribution)
  • An inspection and analysis of the Battery Plant
  • An inspection of all buss bars and power plant cabling
  • An inspection and analysis of all D.C. distribution cabling to RDBs and BDFBs
  • A record of the critical voltage drops in the D.C. Distribution System
  • An inventory and detailed description of power plant components
Following this assessment, Mactel prepares a detailed report and inventory of the major power components together with a line schematic diagram showing the existing power and distribution system and any recommended changes to improve the integrity of the system.

The report is separated into two distinct categories:

Critical Items:
  • Those items that pose a serious network survivability risk
  • Those that are in violation of National or Provincial Electrical Codes
Minor Items
  • Items that could be corrected but do not affect the integrity of the power system (i.e. lug type, conductor routing, conductor identification, etc.)
