Mactel has Power Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with extensive Central Office DC and UPS power expertise
to assist clients to comply with Para. 4-7.1 of NFPA-76 (National Fire Protection Association) draft “Standard for the Protection
of Telecommunications Facilities” which requires the capability to disconnect telecommunications power in an emergency situation.
DE-Powering Plans provide a step-by-step plan to De-Power equipment and can be designed on a variety of levels designed to
shut down power on an individual bay, specific area, each floor, or the entire building allowing fire fighters to respond in a
timely and most efficient manner.
Some of the features included in a Mactel De-Powering Plan include:
- Battery Disconnect architecture for each battery string
- Detailed Power Line Diagram identifying primary and secondary fusing sources
- Labelling of equipment to clearly identify location of fusing
- Document procedures and protocol for reacting to an emergency in a DC / UPS De-Powering Plan
Mactel is one of the few companies in Canada who have developed this type of all-encompassing De-Powering Plan to allow
Telecommunications service providers conform to NFPA-76 while also ensuring an orderly and organized De-Powering in an
emergency situation that will safeguard personnel, equipment and minimize service interruptions.
